President Tsai Meets with Overseas Chinese Entrepreneurship Models: Taiwan is on the Right Path and Will Continue to Expand International Trade for Taiwanese Businesses

President Tsai Ing-wen met with the "Entrepreneurship Model and Entrepreneurship Mutual Aid Award recipients of the 44th Republic of China (Taiwan) and 30th Overseas Chinese Entrepreneurship Model Awards" on the morning of December 2. She stated that this year, the government not only resumed Taiwan-US TIFA (Trade and Investment Framework Agreement) talks but also applied for membership in the CPTPP (Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership). Taiwan's economic growth rate has the potential to exceed 6%, and these positive outcomes prove that Taiwan is on the right path. In the future, the government will continue to expand the international trade layout for Taiwanese businesses.

In her speech, President Tsai first thanked domestic business owners for creating job opportunities in Taiwan and promoting national economic development. She also expressed appreciation for Taiwanese entrepreneurs who have overcome challenges such as resources and language barriers to achieve outstanding success abroad, enhancing Taiwan's international visibility.

The President pointed out that, in recent years, to further the progress of industries, the government has actively laid the foundation for Taiwan's investment environment through the Forward-looking Infrastructure Development Program. The government also warmly welcomes Taiwanese entrepreneurs to return to Taiwan to work together. To this end, it has launched the "Invest Taiwan Three Major Programs" with the hope of injecting new momentum into industry transformation. Last year, the government promoted the "Six Major Core Strategic Industries," introducing technologies such as AI and 5G, aiming to make Taiwan a center for "Advanced Asian Manufacturing" and "Semiconductor Advanced Manufacturing Processes," strengthening supply chain resilience, and maintaining the industry's competitive advantage.

The President noted that although the pandemic has impacted the world economy, it has also led to a restructuring of the global industrial supply chain. This is both a challenge and an opportunity for Taiwan, especially considering that Taiwan successfully held the pandemic at bay, kept the economy running, and showcased Taiwan's importance in the global industrial supply chain. She emphasized that Taiwan is on the right path and must continue to maintain it.

President Tsai stated, "This year, we not only resumed Taiwan-US TIFA talks, but we also applied for membership in the CPTPP. Our economic growth rate has the potential to exceed 6%, marking an 11-year high. These achievements are the result of joint efforts by the industry and the government, and I want to thank everyone once again for their contributions. These positive outcomes also prove that Taiwan is on the right path, which we must maintain. We will also continue to expand the international trade layout for all our Taiwanese business friends."

The President also specifically mentioned the close connection between national development and industry development. The upcoming referendum on December 18 covers topics such as stable power supply, energy transition, economic and trade layout, and deepening democracy, all of which are vital to Taiwan's future. She hopes that everyone will support the government's stance and enable Taiwan to move forward.
